CHINA'S NOV COPPER DEMAND EDGES UP TO 810,000 MT ON AUTO, TRANSFORMER OUTPUT

2016-1-21

China's refined copper consumption in November hit 810,000 mt, edging up 10,000 mt month on month, on higher domestic output of automobiles, cable and transformers, state-run metals consultancy Beijing Antaike said Monday.

China's November net refined copper imports were 270,000 mt, up 10,000 mt month on month, the report said.

The country's refined copper supply in November was 920,000 mt, also up 10,000 mt month on month, it said.

Looking ahead, Antaike said a fund shortage is expected to pressure the domestic downstream copper processing sector. Despite an anticipated increase in investment in infrastructure and power networks in China, it said the impact of this on copper consumption remains to be seen, depending on the actual investment amount.

In October, Antaike lowered its estimate for China's 2015 refined copper consumption to 9.18 million mt, from 9.22 million mt, on weaker demand by the downstream copper processing industries, including refrigeration and telecommunications sectors.
